Benton Moss, Grandson of Craig Reid
Thomas Benton Moss, III is the son of Ashley and Tom Moss of Enfield. Benton’s grandfather is Craig Reid, an alumnus of Red Oak High School class of '55.
Benton graduated in 2011 from Rocky Mount High School, where he completed his high school education with a degree from the International Baccalaureate program. A four year starter for the Gryphons, Benton committed to play baseball for Coach Mike Fox and the Tar Heels at UNC. In March of his senior year, Benton was awarded the Morehead-Cain scholarship, which is a full academic scholarship, patterned after the Rhodes scholarship, and the oldest of its kind in the US.
In his Freshman year at UNC, Benton was active in Athletes in Action, the Carolina Leadership Academy, and took a full course load in both the fall and spring semesters. He is considering a double major in Economics and Business. He was a Deans’ List student both semesters, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester while completing his first season on the baseball team. On the diamond, Benton was a weekend starter, compiling a record of 7-2, with 17 appearances and 16 starts. He pitched a total of 79 innings, collecting 83 strikeouts and earning a team low 1.94 ERA. In June, Benton was recognized as a member of the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team.
